DAY 01 ARRIVE COCHIN
On arrival you will be taken to your hotel, where rooms are reserved for you.Cochin has one of the finest harbors on the Arabian Sea coast and it has been a port of call for foreign traders for centuries. It is also its main trading center for spices & seafood. The city has three distinctive regions – Ernakulam, the modern region to the East, and the older districts of Mattancherry and Fort Cochin located on a peninsula in the west. The easiest way to get around is by ferry, or by walking through the narrow roads and over bridges.Overnight is at Hotel.

DAY 02 IN COCHIN
Today you will spend today walking through the old sections. Our walking tour will take us to; Jew Town, including the PARDESI SYNAGOGUE; THE MATTANCHERRY PALACE, known locally as the Dutch Palace; Fort Cochin, reminiscent of European streets and houses; the CHINESE FISHING NETS on the northern shore of Fort Cochin; and ST FRANCIS CHURCH, near to a typical English village green. A highlight is watching the fishermen working the nets (which operate on a weight system) as the sun is setting. In the evening proceed to see the traditional dance form of Kerala – KATHAKALI.

DAY 03 TO MUNNAR VISITING KUMBHALANGHI

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

At 8 this morning after your breakfast, we will take you to KUMBHALANGHI, a Village in Cochin, 13 kms away and half an hour drive from the Town. It is identified as the first Model fisheries and tourism village in India .On arrival, we will take you to KALLANCHERRY ISLAND with Auto-rickshaws. This is an interesting drive for 10 minutes through the narrow country roads from the main road and you can see the village folk engaged in different activities for there livelihood, may be a woman in her village provision shop, a farmer in his paddy field, a fisherman spreading his net, a kid with a fishing net ……..it goes on. Kallanchery is an Island which is about 700mtrs length and 150 mtrs in breadth. The host is from a traditional Christian joint family of 16 members. The eldest of the family is in her eighties and the youngest is just born .The family members are engaged in agriculture, fishing, crab & fish farming, coir making etc. Main crops cultivated here are coconut and betel nuts, nutmegs, vanilla, anthurium farm, and trees like teakwood, manchium, spices like pepper, pathimugham etc. In the aquaculture farm they cultivate shrimps, crabs, milk fishes, pearl spots and mullets etc. Traditionally the family is following organic farming.

You will be able to see and even partake in various activities here such as Coir processing, Copra processing (Coconut drying process), Mat making, Crab catching, Fish flipping (fish acrobatics), Padalu (kind of trap, fix in the water to catch fish), Clam meat processing, Chinese net operation, Papu mari (Kind of technique used to catch fish), Net making, Oola madayal (thatching village roofs, temporary sheds etc), Toddy tapping (natural fermented drink extracted from coconut flower), Country Boating etc.

After lunch at the Farm (included in the tour), depart for Munnar - a haven of peace and tranquility - the idyllic tourist destination in God's own country. Set at an altitude of 6000 ft in Idukki district, Munnar was the favored summer resort of the erstwhile British rulers in the colonial days.

Unending expanse of tea plantations - pristine valleys and mountains- exotic species of flora and fauna in its wild sanctuaries and forests - aroma of spice scented cool air.

DAY 04 TO KUMARAKOM
After breakfast depart for Kumarakom. En-route visit the Tea factory at Munnar – one of the largest in India. Also visit Spice, Tea & Coffee plantations. Continue your drive after the visit to Kumarakom and stay in your backwater resort, next to the Vembanad Lake with its majestic canals, streams and distributaries along its banks weaves an intricate and beautiful web. This area is a winter home for many migratory birds and species include the darter, little cormorant, night heron, golden-backed woodpecker, white-breasted water hen and many more wonderful birds. Rest of the day is at leisure which can be spent walking and exploring the surrounding area or indulging yourself with the various spa facilities available in your resort.

 

 

 



 

 

DAY 05 KUMARAKOM – BACKWATERS
You board your houseboat today that travels until sunset when it then anchors for the night, at Alleppey. Your boat has a private balcony with comfortable chairs. The rooms are fully furnished with attached bathrooms. The boat has a fully equipped kitchen and an experienced cook to prepare authentic Kerala cuisine with seafood specialties and fresh vegetables.

The entire state of Kerala is blessed with plenty of rivers and the resources of many are still untapped. The waterways of Kerala play a major role in the economy of the state as they link remote villages and islands with the mainland. It is an incredibly different experience to cruise in the backwaters in country boats, absorbing the beauty of Kerala's villages. Houseboats, also known as kettuvallam or rice boats, are today one of the major tourist attractions in Kerala, but these boats were used to carry rice bags in their earlier days.

These houseboats are uniquely designed using local materials like bamboo poles, coconut fiber ropes, bamboo mats, carpets etc. and are a fabulous way to enjoy exploring the fascinating beauties of backwaters

DAY 06 ALLEPPY – KOVALAM (BY SURFACE)
You will get up early today by chirping of birds and occasional ripples in the water. Your breakfast will be cooked before your eyes by your expert boat-crew. Enjoy a sumptuous breakfast while cruising quietly on the unending stretches of these backwaters. The boat will cruise through various canals and waterways giving you an insight into the rural life.
