Day 1 Tue: Depart Canada
Our journey of discovery begins as we board a flight to Shanghai.

Day 2 Wed: Arrive Shanghai
We are met upon arrival by our local guide and transferred to the Galaxy Hotel. The rest of the day is free to relax. Why not take a walk along the famous waterfront to fully appreciate this diverse city? As a tourist city, Shanghai attracts travelers from both home and abroad more for its commercial activity than its scenic beauty. The city is not only a museum of East meeting West on Chinese soil but has overnight become one of the world's great modern capitals, the one city that best shows where China is headed at the dawn of the 21st Centuary.

Day 3 Thu: Shanghai

We set out this morning to visit the Shanghai Museum with its collection of ancient Chinese bronzes, ceramics, paintings and calligraphic Art. This evening we enjoy an acrobatic show at the Portman Ritz-Carlton Hotel after a delicious dinner. (B,L,D)

Day 4 Fri: Zhujiajiao
Our morning excursion takes us to Zhujiajiao, a riverside town near Shanghai followed by a visit to the Oriental Pearl TV Tower for a bird’s eye view of Shanghai. Later,we visit the Jade Buddha Temple where two rare jade statues of Sakyamuni Buddha are treasured. We end the day with a visit to a carpet factory. (B,L,D)

Day 5 Sat: Shanghai - Yichang
We are transferred to the airport to take the filght to Yichang. Upon arrival, we step back 40 years in time as we visit this unique mountain village commune. We watch in fascination as it lives on with its unchanged features from the days of the cultural revolution. The villagers’ way of dressing, their houses and furniture, home decor, the commune office, their productive activities, their wine factory, paper mills, the grain process mills, all are the same as they used to be 40 years back and work at the same pace as the village is isolated from any outside influence. The friendly villagers perform the songs and dances of the revolution and invite us to visit their homes and show us around. Later, we transfer to the port at Yichang where we board the Presidential Cruise for our Pre-cruise night. This evening we enjoy a delicious dinner on board. (B,L,D)

Day 6 Sun: Cruising on the Yangtze
Our cruise ship departs at 9:00 am and passes through the east part of Xiling Gorge, famous for its strangely shaped cliff faces. After lunch, we enjoy an afternoon shore excursion at the Three Gorges Dam project, one of the largest construction projects ever undertaken, it promises to forever change the face of the Yangtze River. Day 7 Mon: Cruising on the Yangtze
We pass through the west part of Xiling Gorges this morning and enjoy a shore excursion at Shennong Stream. Later, we pass through Wu Gorge, home of the twelve peaks of the Wu Mountains, and enjoy watching the sight of a meandering landscape of dazzling peaks and rocks. Later this afternoon, we sail through the Qutang Gorge, and find the river carving its way between sheer precipices of overhanging mountains on both sides. (B,L,D)

Day 8 Tue: Cruising on the Yangtze
This morning, after breakfast we set out on a shore excursion to Shibaozhai - a gem of Chinese architecture. This wood red pavilion, 11 storeys high was built against a protruding 220-meter rectangular rock with sheer cliffs on the north bank. (B,L,D)

Day 9 Wed: Chongqing - Xian
After breakfast, our cruise ship arrives into Chongqing port at approximately 9:00 am. We have enough time for a quick tour of Chongqing visiting the World War II & Stillwell Museum and the painters village, before we transfer to the airport for our flight to Xi'an, China's ancient capital and check into King Dynasty Hotel. Day 10 Thu: Xi'an
We have a full day visit to the world-famous Terracotta Warriors where life-sized infantrymen, archers, officers and their horses symbolically guard the tomb of the first Qin emperor. Later, we visit the Ancient City Wall, well preserved and still encompassing the center of Xi'an followed by a visit to the dramatic Wild Goose Pagoda. After our dinner tonight, we are entertained at the marvelous Tang Dynasty Show. (B,L,SD)

Day 11 Fri: Xi'an - Beijing
Our city tour this morning includes a visit to the Shanxi History Museum where we discover how Xi'an became the cradle of Chinese culture. Later we take the flight to Beijing. We are met on arrival and transferred to Grand Chang An Hotel. This afternoon we visit the beautiful beautiful Summer Palace where we discover gardens, palaces and pavilions with temples and halls in a tranquil, landscaped lakeside setting. (B,L,D)

Day 12 Sat: Beijing
This morning we explore the incredible Forbidden City with its grand palaces and courtyards. Built in 1420, it was here that 24 emperors lived and ruled for over 500 years. The South Gate leads you to Tian'anmen Square - the biggest of its kind in the world. Our afternoon is busy exploring the Temple of Heaven which by itself has become a symbol of the city. China’s largest temple and altar complex, in ancient times the Emperors prayed here for peace and a bountiful harvest, it is an extraordinary example of religious architecture. We enjoy our dinner tonight at the original, century-old Quanjude Roasted Duck Restaurant, followed by a fascinating Peking Opera Show. (B,L,SD)

Day 13 Sun: Beijing
This morning we set out on a half-day guided visit to the awe inspiring Great Wall of China. Here, we enjoy the stunning views as we stroll along this seemingly endless piece of history, which winds its way into the far distance. It is a truly breathtaking sight as it snakes majesticially into the distance over rugged mountains to the north of the city. We then visit another fascinating place - the Ming Tombs with the impressive ”Spirit way”- lined with statues of guardian animals and officials. This great 500 year old Mausoleum for thirteen Emperors of the Ming Dynasty is located about 50 kilometers to the north of Beijing and took over 200 years to build. (B,L,D)

Day 14 Mon: Beijing - Home City
We say goodbye to this beautiful country fly back home.
